There are many causes of neck pain that people suffer from ranging from arthritis to stress. Even though the pain may be felt in the neck, the pain itself may disseminate from other parts of the body. For example someone suffering from neck pain or stiffness may actually have a condition know as spinal stenosis . On the other hand, a lesser complicated cause, such as stress may lead to the tightening of back and neck muscles which in turn cause neck pain. There is also referred or radicular pain that is felt away from the neck but is related to nerves in the cervical spine.

In order to properly treat neck pain, it is first necessary to figure out the underlying cause of the neck pain and what part of the body the it is is associated with. Once you’ve established the cause or condition then your physician should confirm your diagnosis and offer treatment advice.
